Aaron Greenberg who is a marketing manager at Microsoft replied with this tweet when a fan asked whether Microsoft was going to publish the next iteration of the Tomb Raider series.
This shows us how close Microsoft and Square Enix have come in recent times. Microsoft being the publisher of the game will be paying most of the royalties regarding the promotion and distribution of the game which is what probably sparked interest in the deal.
An important note is that Microsoft is only actively supporting the development for the Xbox version of the game and there is little information on what this means for the Playstation version at this time. In a quote to Gamespot, Square Enix stated that
“Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming.” GameSpot
